Discover Financial Freedom
Learn how to become your own boss in any business. Discover what you need to start a successful business, no matter if it is brick and mortar or an online business.
Why You Should Become Your Own Boss
Working for yourself provides more security than than working for someone else. Now I know that statement sounds crazy, but it is 100% true. When you "become your own boss", you control your own destiny. As an employee, you have no real future.
As an Employee, you can be fired or laid off at any time. You may feel being let go isn't a concern, but be aware, you have no control over how a company's finances are managed. A business can shut down without notice and then you are out of a job.
Being a business owner, you control your future. Nothing in life is a guarantee, and everyday is a risk. But if your business is failing, you can work harder to keep it alive. As an employee, these matters are out of your hands.
When you become your own boss, you also can set your own hours and you don't have to worry about asking for time off if you really need it.
Opportunities For Becoming Your Own Boss
Working for yourself allows you to set your own schedule. The limit to your income is all up to you. The more you put in, the more you can get out. Startup is usually the hardest part.
Sometimes it can help to try different things to figure out what fits you and your life best. Let's take a look at some ideas to start with.
Having an Online Business can be very lucrative, however I would recommend checking these 3 pages before getting started.
Make money on eBay and other eCom Stores
When eBay is mentioned, the most common thought is, "buying stuff" or "gathering up junk from around the house and sell it". However, eBay is an online retail store, which means you don't have to have a brick and mortar shop to sell from.
Sites like eBay already have traffic coming to them, all you need are products to sell. Drop shipping is very popular for online stores such as eBay, Shopify, Amazon and the eBay alternative, "Bonanza".
This is only a brief "how to" summary, but I wanted to lay down the basics. Find a niche you like, something you have knowledge or want to learn about. Research the need or desire of what you want to sell. Find a product or create your own, can be a craft or even an informational book. Learn how to sell on the eCom store of your choice. Sell that type product or information. Treat it as a business, not a hobby and stay consistent, then you will succeed.
Freelance Your Services
There are companies that sell Gigs that are services provided by people with certain skills. Fiverr is the most common site known for offering these type services. You will find on Fiverr, many more services than you could imagine.
If you have any IT or website skills, this is the perfect place. Having designing, graphics, photo editing or video editing skills, this is the place. Are you an avid reader or love to write? If so, you can offer your services for writing content for websites or proofreading. Upwork is also a great place for writers or readers.
Become a Social Media Manager
Many people live on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and more. As a result, makes you close to being an social media expert. Why not turn that experience into money. Many companies and even individuals hire people to manage their social media accounts.
Social media continues to grow, thus requiring more man hours to keep these post updated. I actually joined a company that help me get started in this and I love it. Check out Paid Social Media.
Bookkeeping
Obviously not everyone has a financial background so this isn't for just anyone. However, there are people that have degrees, math skills or may even be an out of work accountant, that this would be perfect for.
There are sites that were mentioned above that this type of service can be offered on. Fiverr, Upwork and Flexjobs. Check these sites out for more information on how to sign up and sell your trade.
Start a Blog
Starting a blog may sound like a weird idea, especially when it comes to making money, however it is among one of the most profitable. Blogging is much like the social media avenue. By getting many followers, that becomes a large audience which becomes traffic.
A blog is where you can really put you interest, knowledge or skill to use. You can create loyal followers by sharing what you know. Followers will turn into loyal customers. Your customers will purchase what you suggest based off trust that you created with them.
Starting a blog isn't that hard and usually has the least startup cost than any other business venture. I would highly recommend Wealthy Affiliate for the basic training you will need to pursue this path correctly.
If you like to write, blogging can be a great home business to have. It is a job you love and can be passionate about, plus work from anywhere.
Start a Consulting Business
Much like the categories mentioned above, if you have a skill, knowledge or experience, you can monetize it. Your talent can be offered for money and most importantly, you set your own schedule and pricing.
As an expert, you can offer your expertise in anything. Such as automotive repairs, plumbing, electrical, computer repairs, coding, health and fitness. There really is no limit to what you can consult on. All you need to do is, start a website offering your services and collect the rewards.
Your biggest requirements to starting your own consulting business would be to have a laptop, phone and a place to work from. Advertise through social media and a website and collect customers. Much like blogging, your start up cost can be very inexpensive.
Travel Agent
Becoming a travel agent isn't that hard and the startup isn't costly. The best part is you can start off working for a company. Many companies offer work at home travel agent positions. Once you have worked for a company and learned the ropes, you can then start your own agency.
This would be a career for someone that has a passion for travel, patience and that has good organizational skills. At first, you may not see an income you could live off of. I think the startup would be slow, therefore this may be better as a part time gig until you can build relationships with clients.
Running a Business out of your House
Out of all the ways to become your own boss, this in my least favorite. No matter your niche, when you run a business from home, it is "Intrusive". I had an automotive shop that I ran from home for decades. Now that I have closed it down, my grey hairs went back to being brown.
Running a business out of your house opens yourself up to being burdened by everyone else's problems, all the time. Customers forget that 5:00 o'clock quitting time means for you too. I would get phone calls as late as 11:00pm or people knocking on my door as late as 10:00. These people never considered that I have a personal life.
Jobs like accounting, piano or guitar lessons, baby sitting or computer repair are great at home jobs. You will just have to be firm in letting your customers know your hours. Even then, you will have many that think that rule doesn't apply to them.
Things like automotive repair, wood working or lawnmower repair, can be done in a detached garage. Just ensure that your customers know that you main house is off limits. The money can be great but you have to set boundaries.

What Does It Take To Become Your Own Boss?
Starting your own business can be scary and overwhelming. Usually the first fear for most are big Expenses, but that isn't the real challenge. Discipline and Determination are the biggest hurdles to overcome in the beginning.
Working from home means you have no one telling you what to do. It will be your business demands that dictates what you do. So thoughts about sleeping in, running around half the day or sitting down and watching movies are temptations that you can't give into.
You will struggle at being dedicated if you can't learn self-discipline. Dedication is an extreme crucial part of the equation. Be aware, you are going to have set backs and not everything is going to go smooth. How you succeed is by never giving up. Keep focused on your task and goals.
Money isn't the first thing you have to have, to own your own business. A startup budget can really help, but all the money in the world won't get a business off the ground if you are not working it. If you don't have the following or feel you can't learn them, then being your own boss might not be for you.
Self Motivation
Self-motivation means to get off your butt and get something done without having someone else tell you to do so. You know what has to be done, so do it. Having self-discipline is key to being self motivated.
Self Discipline
Being disciplined means no matter the temptations, you stick to your task. No matter how many things are going on, you push yourself hard to get them done. Procrastination is something you can' afford.
Determination
You can't give up. The difference between people that get what they want out of life and those who don't, is being a quitter or not. Life is never going to be obstacle free, you have to have the right mindset to accept failures so you can learn from them.
Positive Mindset
Starting off negative on any venture, no matter if it is business or a romance, it will fail. It is the positive people that never give into negative thoughts that win in the in. Like the old saying, "If you want it bad enough, you will get it". You have to be positive about what you are doing and about yourself.
Believe in Yourself
To have someone believe in you, can be really awesome. However, that really won't work in the long run. You can't look for approval from others, that has to come from within. Just like the saying, "Who's going to love you if you don't love yourself?" Believing in yourself means you need to like yourself. You have to feel good about what you are doing and know, that no matter win or lose, you will see it to the end.
Focus
There will be distractions everywhere in your business. Email is one of the biggest of them all. You will discover, the more you get into your niche, you will start receiving tons of email offers with the next best thing. Ignore these hyped up offers. Make a business plan of what YOU WANT to do, and stick with it. Sound advice and or a little criticism can help you grow, but constantly changing your game can have you in circles and failing.
Organization
Organization will keep your business in control. The longer you're unorganized, the harder it will be to get it back in order. You will become unfocused if your business becomes too unorganized. Create your business plan by creating using a filing system. Draw yourself a mind map or chart of how you want your process to flow. To Keep your process consistent, stay disciplined.

What To Expect
It isn't always easy owning your own business and being your own boss, especially in the beginning. Start up is all about figuring out what your exact niche is. You then have to figure out what you want to do with that niche, (your interest). From there, it is about figuring things out to make your business work properly.
It can be frustrating and confusing at times, but this is the part that separates you from the winner or the quitter. Mindset is key, you have to put yourself in a demeanor that will accept failing. Because you are going to at times, but that is OK. Failing is learning, however insanity is repeating the same failing mistake over and over. Don't do that, if something doesn't work, figure out the fix or just don't do it again.
